1. Audit

We look at what the old website does today: pages and URLs, content, interfaces and editorial workflows. This defines the scope of the project.

Along the way we decide whether a refresh is enough or a full redesign is needed, and which CMS fits, mostly Drupal or TYPO3.

2. Concept and design

We restructure the content and bring your corporate design to the web, with a responsive design for every device. At the Robert Bosch Foundation it replaced the separate desktop and mobile versions.

3. Development and migration

The new website is built in sprints on a separate test environment while the old one keeps running as usual. The content moves over following the migration concept.

At the end of each sprint we test and work in your feedback.

4. Launch

Before launch we set up the redirects and check load times and SEO. After that the website runs on our hosting infrastructure, and your team is trained in the CMS and has its logins.

What a redesign covers

Redesign or refresh

A refresh renews the look, technology and content stay where they are. A full redesign rebuilds the website, often with a new CMS, a new structure and a new design.

It doesn't always have to be a full redesign: we modernized the website of the Chamber of Architects Baden-Württemberg with a redesign and refactoring at a fraction of the cost of a complete relaunch. What you need, we work out in the audit before we start.

Redesign without losing SEO

A new website often comes with new URLs. So that bookmarks, links from other websites and Google results still arrive, every old URL gets a target on the new website before launch.

For TYPO3 we built our own extension for this: Relaunch Redirects checks every URL of the old website against the new one, suggests a target page for each URL that would end in a 404 and creates the redirects.

Website migration

We migrate content from the old system following our own migration concept, automatically where possible. For BioRegio STERN that was well over 1,000 pages, and for the Chamber of Architects Baden-Württemberg we built a dedicated content parser.

Interfaces are part of the new system, at BKI for example the connection of the shop to customer management and ERP.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a website redesign and a refresh?

A refresh renews the look, technology and content stay. A full redesign rebuilds the website, usually with a new CMS, a new structure and a new design. What you need, we work out in the audit.

Will we lose our Google rankings with a website redesign?

Not if every old URL gets a target. That's why we check every URL of the old website against the new one before launch and set up redirects. For TYPO3 we use our own extension for this.

Do you migrate our content?

Yes. We move it into the new CMS following our own migration concept, automatically where possible. For the Robert Bosch Foundation we restructured much of the existing content along the way.

Can we switch our CMS during a website redesign?

Yes. We moved the Climate Change School from WordPress to Drupal, IKP Stuttgart from RedDot to Drupal and Mader from TYPO3 to Drupal. Which system fits, we work out in the audit.

Does our old website stay online until launch?

Yes. The new website is built on a separate test environment while the old one keeps running as usual. We only switch over at launch.
